Ever Talk Yourself Out Of A Loan?
This is all about playing the long game vs the short game of origianting
Got a weird call last night from an agent I don’t know.
Her buyer just purchased a 1.3 million dollar home and told her he would only work with me for the financing. He didn’t want to shop rates or speak to her lender ..even for a quote
I didn’t even recognize his name at first and he was not in the system for closed loans or people I had prequalifed..
I called him and then it dawned on me.. We had spoken about 2 years ago and at the time I had suggested - for his situation — that he NOT GET a mortgage or even an equity line but instead take a loan against his portfolio
He had a short term need for cash- and it didn’t see smart to pay all of the closing costs on a refi or even an equity line..
IN ESSENCE - I TALKED HIM OUT OF GETTING A MORTGAGE AND ALSO OUT OF ME GETTING A COMMISSION..
and he remembered how unusual that was for a commissioned sales person to talk themselves OUT OF a commission but instead provide the honest advice the client was looking for..
This is the difference between the long game and short game of originating
Yes- I honestly could have used that deal back then- business was very slow
But in the end when you do what’s best for your client it comes around..
Maybe its karma or maybe its why I have been able to originate in all markets for the past 39 years… !!!
