Things have been strangely quiet...
I realize things have been strangely quiet around here, lately.
There is a reason for this, which I will get to in a second - just wanted to let you know that we (me and Brian) are STILL here, STILL originating loans, STILL in the game (if you will).
However, I realize how this looks from your perspective. Don't mis-interpret "quiet" as "lack of interest" or indifference on our part. Nothing could be further from the truth.
But, I get it...
This is how "gaps" work, in our world... they backfill with whatever information is available. And if none is available, then speculation takes over and (subconsciously) fills those gaps, with something that might make sense (whether it's true or not).
In fact, this exact same phenomenon takes place with our borrowers, especially our "prospective" borrowers. But, probably not in the (obvious) way you think. Let's say a prospect goes looking for you, and can't find you. That's obviously a problem (pretty big gap). But, let's say they find you - but not much information ABOUT you. This may not sound like much of a problem at all, but it is. Here's why...
When a prospective borrower goes looking for you, they are really looking for more than just "do you really exist" -and- your contact information. They want to know ABOUT you - something that would help them decide whether or not to use you. A gap exists in their mind. So, if they don't find anything compelling, they'll (subconsciously) back-fill that gap with some version of "nothing different here". Their perception is you are just like all the other loan officers. And this doesn't help you get a deal.
This is just a tiny snippet of an example that barely scratches the surface of what is really an insanely deep subject - more so than you might ever imagine. I know it was more than I ever imagined.
When I teamed up with Brian Sacks about a year ago, here at Top Originator, I started a project - part of which involved the "unpacking" of all the concepts, strategies and tactics contained in all of Brian's systems. It started out as a little "organizational" project. Little did I know it would become responsible for the identification of the foundational concept on which our new perspective on how to grow an origination business is built. Literally.
So, to say there's been a "break-thru", would be an accurate statement. It's made me re-think key points of my belief system on how I approach marketing in this business.
I'm as excited about this as I've ever been about anything in our industry. I believe it's the lynchpin between, an ordinary origination business vs. an extraordinary one + doing it on your own terms. So, you can have an extraordinary origination business on terms you dictate.
This discovery and "connecting of the dots" is the context of what we're going to talk about next week when I sit down with Brian to go through what he's doing, to beat this wasteland of a market we're in right now.
You won't want to miss it.
Hope to see you then,
Michael Miget
