Last night we went out for Chinese and as is customary we got 2 fortune cookies with our desert…
Here’s mine;
”Failure is NOT defeat until you Stop trying.”
Many times we give up right before success would have happened.
This is so appropriate for our times now in the mortgage industry and I am sure you feel it too.
There are still deals being done and there always will be..
People getting divorced who HAVE TO do a spousal buyout
People who have to sell due to a death or relocation.
Seniors who need to downsize financially and physically.
The issue is are you getting YOUR share of the market - not that the market is slow.
It’s so easy to have a pity party and just throw in the towel.
BUT THAT IS A MISTAKE!!!!
Several examples come to my mind.
Back in the 80’s and 90’s I called on a real estate office during the days when you actually could walk in and speak to agents who were working at their desks.
I would literally go in there each and every day.
The broker asked me why I came in everyday and I told him -
Same reason you do - to do business
He took that as me being a smartass and asked me not to come back.
Sure enough I came back the next day and every day after..
I was doing some business in that office but they had their own go to guy and also an in house loan officer.
Fast forward a few more years - still doing some loans here and there.. and they got rid of their in house loan officer and their go to loan officer started getting an attitude and not closing loans on time.
GUESS WHAT!
I started doing 99% of the loans in that office and continued to for the next 15 years when the broker sold the company
THERE ARE NUMEROUS TIMES IN MY CAREER WHERE IT WOULD HAVE BEEN LOGICAL TO GIVE UP and CERTAINLY MUCH EASIER!
BTW- very much like the success book- Acres of Diamonds-
If you are a paid subscriber email me at toporiginatorunderground.com and I will send you a copy! it’s worth reading especially now!
There are many agents I persisted in marketing too who are now 100% loyal to me.
Don’t give up and look at all of this as a speed bump- not a brick wall
Work your plan and plan your work
I don’t want to be too cliche about all of this but I promise you that this is a time of opportunity not demise- Look at companies that are closing and grab THEIR market share.
Look at loan officers who are moving and grab theirs !!!
DO THE WORK AND DON’T HAVE A PITY PARTY—— IT WILL PAY OFF !!!
